Calne banking hub opens

Published on 17 December 2024

The official opening of the new banking hub in Calne - at 1 The Strand - will take place between 11am and 12pm on 20 December and Cllr Jon Fisher and Michael Hudston - who requested the hub on behalf of his community - will be in attendance to cut the ribbon. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The hub will offer a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks can carry out regular cash transactions, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. It also offers a community banker service where customers can talk to their own bank about more complicated issues on the day their bank is in the hub. In Calne, the community bankers are available on the following days:

Monday: Halifax
Tuesday: Lloyds
Wednesday: Barclays
Thursday: NatWest
Friday: HSBC

Finding the right location for a banking bub that is convenient, accessible and works for everyone often takes time, so Cash Access UK is delighted to have been able to secure convenient premises in the heart of the community. Our team has been working hard to fit out the premises over the past few months in preparation for the opening.

This is the second hub to open in Wiltshire following Royal Wootton Bassett. Another hub is in progress for Westbury.

Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK: “I’m happy to announce the opening of our Calne hub, ensuring crucial access to cash and face-to-face banking services for residents and businesses across the community. Customers can visit on any day of the week for their everyday banking transactions and if you have a specific or more complex enquiry for your bank, a Community banker will be there to help on the day they’re in the hub.”

Michael Hudston, community requestor: “It is great to see the Banking Hub now open in Calne providing the very necessary additional facility, for the majority of Calne residents access cash. Calne has many residents that rely on cash to manage their finances, or struggle to bank online. The days where banks will maintain all their own branches has passed. Banking hubs mean banks can still have a presence in a town to provide face to face services.”
