Richmond’s banking hub opens in permanent home

Published on 21 January 2025

Richmond Banking Hub is now open in its permanent home at 20 King Street, formerly occupied by the Lloyd’s Pharmacy.

The hub will be officially opened at 11am on Friday 17th January by Phil Upton, Secretary and Treasurer of Richmond Business Association Membership. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The hub will continue to offer a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks can carry out regular cash transactions, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. There is also a Community Banker service where customers can talk to their own bank about more complicated issues on the day their bank is in the hub. In Richmond, the Community Bankers are available on the following days:

Monday: NatWest
Tuesday: Lloyds
Wednesday: HSBC
Thursday: Barclays
Friday: Halifax

Last year, while the site for the permanent hub was being refurbished, a hub was opened at a temporary location in the Post Office on Finkle Street. This location is now closed.

Richmond’s hub is the third to open in North Yorkshire, following those in Filey and Knaresborough. Work is also progressing to open a hub in Whitby.

Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK: “I’m happy to announce the opening of our Richmond hub, ensuring crucial access to cash and face-to-face banking services for residents and businesses across the community. Customers can visit on any day of the week for their everyday banking transactions and if you have a specific or more complex enquiry for your bank, a Community Banker will be there to help on the day they’re in the hub. A big thanks to the Post Office for hosting us while we found and refurbished our new home.”

Rishi Sunak, MP for Richmond and Northallerton: “It’s fantastic to see the Richmond Banking Hub officially open and ready to serve the community. Having visited the site earlier in its development, I’m delighted to see it completed and providing such a valuable service to local residents. Banking hubs represent an important commitment to maintaining financial inclusion and supporting the needs of all members of our community”

Phil Upton, Richmond Business Association Membership Secretary & Treasurer: “The introduction of the Richmond Banking Hub is great news for everyone and knowing that your chosen bank will have a presence there on certain days of the week will mean that individuals have a choice and can continue to do their banking in a familiar way. I am sure it will prove to be a great success.”
