Thorne Banking Hub opens

Published on 16 September 2024

A new Banking Hub in Thorne is now open at 5 Silver Street. The official opening will take place today between 11am and 12pm.

The Hub will offer a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks can carry out regular cash transactions, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. It also offers a Community Banker service where customers can talk to their own bank about more complicated issues on the day their bank is in the Hub. In Thorne, the Community Bankers are available on the following days:

Monday: NatWest

Tuesday: Virgin Money

Wednesday: HSBC

Thursday: TSB

Finding the right location for a Banking Hub that is convenient, accessible and works for everyone often takes time, so Cash Access UK is delighted to have been able to secure convenient premises in the heart of the community. Our team has been working hard to fit out the premises over the past few months in preparation for the opening.

The Hub was recommended by LINK, the UK’s cash access and ATM network, following the announcement of the closure of town’s last remaining bank branch.

Thorne’s new Hub will be the first permanent Hub to open in South Yorkshire, following the opening of a temporary Hub in Wath upon Dearne. Cash Access UK is also progressing work to open Hubs in Dinnington and New Rossington.

Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK: “I’m happy to announce the opening of our Thorne Hub, ensuring crucial access to cash and face-to-face banking services which are vital to both residents and businesses across the community.”

Lee Pitcher MP for Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme: “We need to breathe new life into our High Streets. I only spoke about this in Parliament the other day.  A key part of high street regeneration is to have access to banking back. I am thrilled to see the new banking hub in Thorne opening to support local communities and their businesses.”
