Troon celebrates first anniversary of Banking Hub

Cash Access UK, is this week celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Banking Hub in Troon.

Just over a year since the Hub opened its doors on Ayr Street, it is proving popular with an average over 130 customers visiting the Hub each day. Additionally, 92 per cent of customers surveyed at the Troon Hub said they would recommend it to others and 90 per cent say the Hub is important to the local community.

Troon’s Banking offers a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks and building societies can carry out regular cash transactions, Monday to Friday. The Hub also offers a Community Banker service where customers can talk to their own banking provider about more complicated issues. The Community Bankers will work on rotation, with a different bank available on each day of the week. In Troon it’s:

Monday – RBS

Tuesday – Bank of Scotland

Wednesday – Santander

Thursday – Virgin Money

Friday – Customer Liaison Service

Since opening, Cash Access UK added a Customer Liaison Service. Every Friday, they provide face-to-face support for customers who may be unsure about how to get help with their banking queries. Alongside explaining how the Hub works, they also help guide customers with relevant information and support online as well as helping them to contact their bank through the quickest and most appropriate channel.

The Troon Hub was the second to open in Scotland following on from one of the original pilot Hubs set up in Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire. There are currently 52 Banking Hubs open across the UK with ten open across Scotland including Brechin (Angus), Cambuslang (South Lanarkshire), Carluke (South Lanarkshire), Carnoustie (Angus), Crieff (Perth and Kinross), Forres (Moray), Jedburgh (Borders), Kilwinning (Ayrshire), Kircudbright (Dumfries and Galloway) and Troon. Five further Hubs have been recommended and Cash Access UK is working to deliver these new Hubs.

Troon was chosen to receive a Banking Hub after LINK, the UK’s cash access and cash machine network, identified the need for enhanced cash deposit services following bank branch closures in Troon.

Gareth Oakley, CEO, Cash Access UK: “I am really pleased that all the hard work and effort to open the Hub in Troon is paying off. We know more people are banking online and paying for things digitally, but more than 130 people – and growing – come into the Hub everyday demonstrating how important access to cash and basic banking services are. We are working to deliver new Hubs across Scotland and for those unfamiliar with how they work across Ayrshire, hopefully a trip to Troon or Carluke will give you a clear idea of how they are helping the community.”
